Improving Performance in Newslazer on Eweka

Newslazer is tailored for fast, direct Usenet access with Eweka's high-performance network. If you're not seeing the speeds you'd expect, this guide offers tips to help you troubleshoot and optimize your setup.

Adjust the Number of Connections

Start by reviewing how many simultaneous connections are configured in Newslazer. Eweka supports up to 50 SSL connections. Using fewer can sometimes improve stability, especially on less powerful devices. Try adjusting the connection count in steps of 5 to find the best balance for your system.

Experiment with Different Ports

SSL traffic can be routed through port 563 or 443. Depending on how your Internet provider manages traffic, switching ports might improve speed. Visit Options > Settings > Connection, check the "Prefer SSL connections if available" box, and try both ports in the dropdown to see which performs better.

Regional Routing and Server Endpoints

Newslazer defaults to connecting via news.eweka.nl, which routes to the nearest server. If you’re located outside the Netherlands, it may help to try an alternate hostname to evaluate routing differences.

Improve Network Stability

For more reliable performance, use an Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi. Wireless networks are prone to interference, which can lead to slower transfer speeds. Also, rebooting your modem and router can resolve temporary congestion or misrouting.

Pause Competing Internet Activity

When multiple devices on your network are accessing high-bandwidth services, it may impact Usenet speeds. Try limiting concurrent usage while Newslazer is active to reduce congestion.
