How to Copy Newsbin Settings Between Computers

Replicating your Newsbin environment on another computer is a simple task. Here's a guide tailored for Eweka users:

  1. Install and Register: Set up Newsbin on your new machine. Eweka subscribers can use the software on up to three systems.

  2. Migrate the Data Directory: Copy the folder listed under Options > Setup in your current installation to preserve your message lists and settings.

  3. Restore Layout Preferences: Move Guiitems.db3 to C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\newsbin on the new computer.

  4. Bring Over Your .NBI File: This file contains server configurations and subscription details. Double-click it to launch Newsbin using your saved preferences.

  5. Changing the Newsbin Data Folder location:

    • Determine your current configuration file location. Use the title bar in Newsbin or "Save Configuration As" under the File menu.

    • Use the "Open Data Folder" button under Options > Setup to find your current Data folder.

    • Close Newsbin.

    • Open the .NBI configuration file in a text editor. Backup the file first.

    • Update the DataPath variable under [Settings] to the new location.

    • Move all files from the original Data folder to this new location.

    • Double-click the .NBI file to relaunch Newsbin using the new setup.

  6. Launch and Confirm: Start Newsbin via the copied .NBI file. From then on, the application will use this configuration automatically.

Important: Already queued items won’t reflect folder changes. Use "Download to Folder" to update individual paths.
