Guidelines for Posting on Usenet

To maintain healthy conversations on Usenet, contributors should follow these basic etiquette rules:

  1. Subject Lines Matter Your subject should clearly describe the topic. Misleading or unclear titles may cause confusion or be ignored.
  2. Select the Right Newsgroup Make sure your message fits the purpose of the newsgroup. Off-topic posts reduce relevance and may get flagged.
  3. Limit Cross-Posting Only cross-post if the discussion truly applies to multiple groups. Excessive cross-posting is discouraged.
  4. Avoid Promotions Posts meant to advertise or promote are typically disallowed across most groups.
  5. Keep It Readable Use simple, clean formatting. Avoid all caps, excessive symbols, and unnecessary quoting.
  6. Follow the Group's Lead Lurk before posting. Understanding how a group communicates can help avoid missteps.
  7. Be Respectful Discussions work best when participants engage respectfully. Avoid disruptive or aggressive language.
  8. Know Your Provider's Article Retention Eweka’s article retention settings determine how long your posts remain accessible. Plan accordingly.
