How Does Eweka Track Usage? Are Headers Counted?

Eweka tracks usage based on the amount of data accessed from the Usenet network. All Eweka plans offer unlimited data, so usage tracking is primarily for informational and diagnostic purposes. This measurement includes both article bodies and headers. However, the impact of headers on total usage is minimal when compared to article bodies.

What Are Headers?

Headers are small pieces of information attached to articles on Usenet. They include details such as the subject, date, poster, and article ID. When using a newsreader or Indexer to search for articles, headers are often retrieved to help organize and display search results.

Do Headers Count Toward Usage?

Yes, headers are included in your data usage. However, because they are small in size, they typically account for only a small portion of total usage. The majority of data usage comes from accessing article bodies.

Why Might Usage Vary?

Usage may vary depending on your newsreader’s configuration and how it handles headers. Some newsreaders retrieve large sets of headers automatically, while others only access specific ones based on search queries. This difference in behavior can affect how much data is recorded as usage.

Additionally, if you use an external Indexer or search tool to browse articles, that usage may not count against your data total unless it is routed through your Eweka connection.
