Understanding 423 and 430 "No Such Article" Errors on Eweka

When using Eweka to access Usenet, you may occasionally encounter errors labeled 423 No Such Article or 430 No Such Article. These messages typically mean that the article you're trying to access is no longer available on the server or never existed in the first place.

What Causes These Errors?

There are a few common reasons why these errors occur:

1. Article Age Exceeds Eweka’s Article Retention

Eweka maintains one of the longest article retention periods of any Usenet provider in the world. However, if an article is older than what is stored on Eweka’s servers, a request for it will result in a 423 or 430 error.

2. Expired or Invalid NZB

If your NZB was generated by a Usenet Indexer, and that Indexer listed an article that has already expired or never existed, the error can occur. Indexers do not always reflect real-time server availability.

3. Group Not Subscribed or Searched

If your newsreader isn’t set to subscribe to the newsgroup where the article resides, it might not locate or access the article, leading to a 430 error.

What Can You Do?

  • Check Article Age: Compare the article’s age against Eweka’s current article retention. If it’s older, it will no longer be accessible.

  • Try a Different NZB or Indexer: The NZB might be outdated or incorrect. Search again or use another Indexer.

  • Verify Newsgroup Settings: Make sure your client has access to the correct newsgroup and that it’s indexed or subscribed within your setup.

If you're still experiencing issues after checking the above, consider contacting Eweka support with your NZB and any error logs your newsreader displays.

Eweka adds one day of article retention every day, keeping articles accessible for longer periods over time. If you're using a reliable Indexer and still see these messages, the issue is most likely related to the article's age or an error in how it was indexed.
