Troubleshooting Newsbin Pro Errors for Eweka Users

Fixing Newsbin Problems with Eweka

1. Launch Problems

Use Shift Startup: Hold Shift while starting Newsbin to bypass the saved layout. This can help if the application fails to open or hangs during launch.

2. Missing Tabs, Windows, or Toolbars

If parts of the interface have disappeared:

  • Choose Options > Reset Display GUI.

  • Newsbin will close and reopen with the default display settings.

3. Servers Not Showing

If Eweka’s server configuration has disappeared:

  • Open Options > Servers.

  • Use New Server to re-enter the appropriate host, port, and authentication settings.

4. App Crashes on Start

  • Open the Newsbin data directory.

  • Rename the .nbi file to create a fresh config on next launch.

5. Suspected Database Corruption

  • Exit Newsbin.

  • Rename .db3 files in the data folder.

  • Newsbin will recreate them, often resolving erratic behavior.

6. Network or Antivirus Blocking

  • Test whether disabling antivirus or firewall restores function.

  • Restart Newsbin after doing so.

7. Articles Not Appearing or Incomplete Headers

  • Compare the article retention for the group to Eweka’s retention limit.

  • Adjust Indexer or search filters if too narrow.
