GrabIt Running Slowly on UsenetServer? Try These Fixes

Tips for Better Performance When Using UsenetServer with GrabIt

1. Confirm Server Settings

Make sure your configuration is correct:

  • Server: news.usenetserver.com

  • Port: 563 with SSL

  • Set connections to 10–12

2. Enable SSL

To turn on SSL in GrabIt for UsenetServer:

  • In the GrabIt interface, right-click the UsenetServer server listed on the left.

  • Choose Server Properties from the menu.

  • In the new window, check the box labeled Encrypted server connection (SSL).

  • When GrabIt prompts you about changing the port, click Yes to automatically switch to port 563.

Using SSL improves privacy and can lead to more stable connections, especially on managed networks.

3. Adjust Server Priority Settings

Put UsenetServer at the top of your GrabIt server list to avoid delays from secondary providers.

4. Schedule Off-Peak Usage

Initiate large tasks during early morning or late evening hours to avoid potential congestion.

5. Watch for Group Refresh Timeouts

If GrabIt stops progressing at the end of a group refresh, close and restart the application to resume normal speed.

6. Install the Latest GrabIt Version

Outdated software often slows down or behaves erratically. Updating to the newest version may resolve performance issues.

7. Prioritize a Wired Connection

UsenetServer users running GrabIt on a wired connection typically experience fewer performance dips than Wi-Fi setups.

8. Adjust Batch Task Load

Head to Preferences > Batch and set values suited to your device’s RAM and bandwidth to avoid overload.

9. Use Fast Drives for Storage

Use a local SSD for saving rather than NAS or USB drives. The storage path can be configured in Preferences > Folders.

10. Set Automatic Pause for Disk Limits

Preferences > Advanced includes an option to stop activity when disk space is low. Use it to prevent issues.

11. Minimize Extra Error Checks on Older PCs

Slower computers may perform better with single and multipart error checking disabled in Preferences > Advanced.

12. Free Up Memory via Cache Settings

You can manage your history cache size in Preferences > History to optimize RAM use.

13. Stagger Repair and Batch Actions

Preferences > Repair and Extract includes options to prevent repairs during batch processing, reducing strain.

14. Skip Retries for Missing Articles

Disabling "Continue downloading on article not found error" in Preferences > Advanced may improve efficiency.

15. Explore More Options

Performance tuning is highly system-specific. Visit the GrabIt Help Center for further tips.
