Why Am I Not Reaching the Speeds I Expect on Eweka?

If your Eweka connection isn't performing at the level you expect, there are a few common factors that may be affecting your speeds. Below are several things to check and actions to take that may improve performance.

Speed Limits

All Eweka plans include unlimited speed. If you're not reaching the performance level you expect, the cause is likely unrelated to any plan-based speed restriction.

Confirm Your Newsreader Settings

Incorrect newsreader settings may impact your ability to make the most of your connection. Be sure that:

  • You're using the correct Eweka server address (news.eweka.nl)

  • You're using port 563 for SSL or port 119 for non-SSL

  • You haven’t set a manual throttle in your newsreader

  • You’ve configured the number of connections appropriately (Eweka allows up to 50)

Use a Wired Connection if Possible

Wi-Fi may introduce interference or signal degradation, which can lead to inconsistent or slower speeds. If you're troubleshooting a speed issue, try switching to a wired Ethernet connection to eliminate wireless signal issues as a potential cause.

Test Your Internet Speed Outside of Usenet

Sometimes, the cause lies outside of Usenet entirely. Use a service like speedtest.net to measure your Internet connection speed. If the result is lower than expected, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Avoid VPN Congestion

Using a VPN may impact performance depending on the location of the VPN server, current server load, or encryption overhead. If you're using a VPN, try switching servers or temporarily disconnecting to compare speeds.

Confirm Server Location Proximity

Eweka’s servers are located in Europe. If you're located far from these servers or using a connection route with high latency, that may influence performance. In this case, testing your connection to a closer VPN endpoint may help.

Still Need Help?

If you've checked everything above and are still experiencing unusually low speeds, please reach out to Eweka Support. Include:

  • A brief description of the issue

  • Your current Eweka plan

  • The number of connections you're using

  • Your Internet connection speed

  • Whether you're using a VPN or proxy

This information helps our support team diagnose the issue more accurately and get you back to optimal speeds.

If you're new to Usenet, we also recommend reviewing your newsreader's documentation and confirming that you're using a reliable Indexer. Access performance can sometimes be affected by delays or gaps in the Indexer feed.
